What is Animate and who is it for?

Is Adobe Animate backward compatible with files saved in Flash Professional?

Yes. Files and projects saved in earlier versions of Flash Professional are compatible with Adobe Animate. Please note that ActionScript 2 support was dropped with the introduction of Flash Professional in 2013.
